Making a decision in the boardroom is easy. Actually implementing it is the real test. That’s the hardest lesson Zaeem Hasan Khan takes from more than 18 years working in regulated digital finance across Africa, and the reason he believes the customer’s voice needs a literal seat at the boardroom table, not just a mention in a report afterward.
With Simba Money, a fintech based in Dar es Salaam, Zaeem is building financial access for Tanzanians and across Africa. Instead of a rigid go-to-market strategy, his team works from a “market activation plan,” and instead of treating regulators as gatekeepers, Simba Money treats them as collaborators: five different regulators worked together with the company on a solution for digital data inclusion for travelers landing in Tanzania. The ambition goes beyond one product: Simba Money wants to grow into a single super app for financial services, with “Grow Now Pay Later” for farmers as one of the first building blocks. You can find more about the company at simbamoney.co.tz.
With our podcast “Scaling With Purpose,” we speak with founders of scale-ups about their journey. Together we look at the challenges they faced, so that we can inspire other scale-up founders with the solutions that worked for this founder.
